Vuelta Al Tachira: Medina plays with his rivals

11.01.2008/ Yesterday, Manuel 'El Gato' Medina won the sixth stage and extended his overall lead. It was 'El Gatos' second stage win at this years Vuelta Al Tachira.

After Tuesdays stage win and wednesdays second spot at the first mountain stage, it was the third stage in a row that was dominated by the 2006 overall winner.

The Gobernación del Zulia rider played with his rivals at the sixth stage, which started at Bailadores and finished after 122 kilometres at La Azulita, Medina needed 2 hours, 49 minutes and 01 second. 

Teammate Yeison Delgado (Gobernación del Zulia), came in second, 16 seconds behind Medina, while local rider Jose Contreras (Alcaldía de Nirgua), finished third at 1' 20". 

Wednesdays stage winner Noel Vasquez, had to abandon during yesterdays stage. 

´The overall standings leader Manuel 'El Gato 'Medina, leads with 18h 29:19, followed by Yeison Delgado to 1' 42".

The seventh stage will take place at a circuit in the town of El Vigia with a total distance of 94 kilometers, with four intermediate sprints.

Malaya van Ruitenbeek finished 49th, 18' 09" behind Medina. Van Ruitenbeek reports with a regular diary from the Vuelta Al Tachira.
