The day started early. Together with Paco Wrolich, my roommate, I woke up at 7 am. After our breakfast we went quickly to an Italian bar near our hotal. I have to admit that I am a great fan of coffee.

Today it was really hot and the sun was shining ad infinitum. The stage started pretty easy but after 11 kilometres the first kom points came and there we took off our gloves. Attack after attack until finally three man broke away with which all riders were satisfied. The three riders at the front had a lead of almost seven minutes. 50 kilometres before the finish line no team was willing to chase them. For me it was actaully clear that they would come through.

But suddenly several teams were in agreement and chased full throttle. 10 kilometres before the finish line they had only 50 seconds left of their lead. Frösi [Robert förster] and I moved slowly to the front of the bunch.

The final was really difficult. The last two kimeters were slightly rising. Once again I was positioned to far behind, but Frösi was at the front and came in fifth. We can build on that at the coming stages. My legs are good but surprisingly I have a little bit of trouble with the heat. But that will get better from day to day. Now I go to bed because tomorrow we will start early again.

Until tomorrow

Your Heinrich
