Hello and welcome to stage 1!

Today didn't start very well for our team. After yesterdays mechanical problems Philipp was told that he will not be allowed to start anymore because he did not finish [at yesterdays prologue, editor] in the grace period. At first we were all shocked and Philippe couldn't believe it. „What? Can't be, at a prologue?“ Philipp tried to speak with officials but they didn't allow him to start. So we started todays 168 kilometres long stage with only five riders.

We already saw in the morning hours that it wouldn't be exactly easy. If you looked out of the window you could see the strong winds sweeping through the trees. Although it was a flat stage the wind would make it hard for us.

Exact on time for the start the predicited rain was starting to fall and made the stage even more awkward. About 90% of the route was on a highway and the wind blew from the front so it was a bit boring but it also had its advantages as there was more space for the 200 men peloton. We also did not know how the riding skills of our friends from Paraguay, Urugay & co were. At the first and only mountain classification for today, which actually was a shovel with sand, Schilli grabbed a good third place (actually a pity...). After that the firework started with a small breakaway group in which we were represented by Rob. After 40 kilometres they were caught again and the cards would be newly mixed again. Wacker took care that our mechanic Sven could sniff a bit from our tire glue after he had a puncture at his back wheel and to top it another one at his front wheel in the final. That gave him a spot in the gruppetto.

Because we had to ride against the wind at the end of the stage and the bunch was splitted into several groups only Schilli and Rob were in the firts group, Rob managed to get a top 20 result.

Although there were a lot of crashes we all crossed the line safely and can regenerate from the exertions.

Until tomorrow, chain at the right

Tilo & Philipp
