Cyclingheroes: How was it for you that a succesful team like Discovery just dissapeared?
Yaroslav Popovych: After last years Tour de France I had a very difficult
time. A team that won the Tour de France not getting a sponsor is very difficult to understand. Bruyneel called me and told
me that the team won't exist anymore next year. I thought, no that's impossible. After that I received a lot of offers from
other teams. You know, life goes on. I signed with Silence – Lotto for the next three years.
Cyclingheroes: Cadel Evans will be the Tour captain, what ambitions
do you have yourself?
Yaroslav Popovych: After his second place in last years Tour de France,
his strong performances at the World Championships and the Giro Lombardia Cadel is one of the big riders. Cadel is the leader
of our team. For myself, everything will be decided during the races. My main aim is to help Cadel to win the Tour de France.
Its one of the objectives of the team.

Cyclingheroes: You have had good results yourself as well. Top GC rankink at the Giro, you won
the Young Riders Classification at the Tour... What do you want to achieve in your career?
Yaroslav Popovych: This year I want to win a stage race. A small one...
I want to do well in the Tour de France. The Olympic Games are very important for me and also for my country, the Ukraine.
I hope to have good legs after the Tour and have very strong performance in Beijing.
Cyclingheroes: You rode with Discovery for a captain, you ride with
Silence – Lotto for a captain... When do we see Popovych riding as a captain?
Yaroslav Popovych: Everything is possible (Popovych laughs, editor].
Its even possible this year. Its not possible now but in five months a lot can happen. Everything we can change, we'll see.

Cyclingheroes: With all the problems in cycling in the last couple of years... Is it still fun
to ride or is it difficult for a rider?
Yaroslav Popovych: Its very difficult for a rider. For me... Its my
job but I ride for fun. I like it and I love this sport. Its very difficult. You think well maybe it will be better next month
or in five months... We hope everything will calm down. No more problems. We hope this year will be a clean year.
