Barloworld completed an interesting week in South - Africa on Sunday when it got sprinter Robert Hunter winning on the line at Green Point Stadium in record time after wrapping up the honours in the Giro del Capo international five-day stage race on Saturday.

The 105-man peloton was virtually together for most of the distance as teams Barloworld and Neotel took controle over the race to ensure there were no significant breakaways which the fast pace of the race inhibited in any case with the speed averaging 45 km/h.

As the teams fought for position for the final sprint there was a moment of confusion as a Danish rider threw his arms into the air when he mistook the finish line with 200m still to go.

Barloworld's Felix Cardenas and Chris Froome were quick to take advantage of this and passed the riders who tought they were already at the finish to lead in Hunter for the victory .

Hunter, who won the race last year as well, set a new record of two hours 27 minutes 30 seconds for the race.

Jan Ullrich was one of more then 39.000 cyclists who took part in the Cyclo Sportif part of the race. Ullrich started at the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour to raise money for the Imibala organisation.

Imibala’s main focus is providing a primary education for the underprivilaged children of the helderberg area in somerset west through our sponsor-a-child programme.
