The impressive show of strenght by the Cofidis team started at Dwars door Vlaanderen, Chavanel was the first French rider to win the Belgian semi-classic. But it wasn't just Chavanel's victory: the way Nich Nuyens and Chavanel demolished the rest of the field was a show of strength by a French team that wasn't seen for years.

Chavanel told sporza.be after last Sundays Brabantse Pijl: "That I am the first Frenchmen to win Brabantse Pijl? Well, someone has to be the first one."

Chavanel added: "But we have a great team, we proved that today [the interview was made on Sunday, editor]."

"Its cool that I succeeded because this was the first time I started here. Actually I didn't know the route. But I like bad weather, so that was my adavantage."
"Now Flanders can come, even if that's another caliber."

Chavanel's teammate Nick Nuens said about Brabantse Pijl: "My legs weren't that good, maybe it was because of the bad weather. I told Chavanel that I would destroy the group and that he should attack."

Nuyens continued by saying: "That Guy keeps on riding and riding. Thats why we call him "la machine." The stress is completely gone at our team. I think Chavanel and Cancellara are the best men in the peloton."

Nuyens concluded by saying: "Two captains at the 'Ronde'? Why not? I will direct the team but if he is better than me, he should go for it."
