Gert Steegmans (Quickstep) bumped into a tractor during the Belgian semi - classic Dwars door Vlaanderen. After the crash he felt good, but despite the adapted training Steegmans still has a lot of pain.

Steegmans is very disappointed. "It’s a very serious problem, which made it impossible to participate," said Steegmans. "I had a constant pain during Gent-Wevelgem. Therefore I decided, together with my medical staff, to drop out."

"It’s a pity for the team” said Quickstep's team manager Patrick Lefevere. "Gert is an excellent rider for Paris-Roubaix, but we may not take any risks. That’s why we took this decision. The medical tests of the next days have to prove what is causing the pain. With the right treatments he will be back soon."

Quickstep will announce its roster for Paris-Roubaix after the training of Friday. The start of the training is scheduled at 10:15am from the cobblestones section of Haveluy à Wallers  (section nr. 19) to Cysoing à Bourghelles (section nr.6).
