Today's Italian summer classic race presented a very hilly route of 196.8 km, marked out by 12 laps of 16.4 km. The riders had to face lots of short climbs, dangerous curves and corners and the average speed was really high. In fact only about 30 riders were able to ride their bikes up to the finishing line.

That's why tea, Barloworld considered Christian Pfannberger's third place represents a good performance, as he, Ginanni and Montaguti  attacked with 4 kilometres to go.

"It was such a demanding race today - stated Barloworld's sports director Alberto Volpi - and even if Christian missed the victory, I'm satisfied with his effort. He has a good shape and he proved it also winning Wednesday's Wels criterium. But the whole Team Barloworld was impressive today: the two stagiaires Michele Gaia and Aussie David Tanner made an important work and Tanner was able to finish the race. It's a good beginning for these two younsters riders".

Today Team Barloworld will take part in the G.P. Nobili Rubinetterie, in the surroundings of Varese. It will be another tough race and DS Alberto Volpi once again relies on Austrian Champion Pfannberger, but also on Chris Froome and Robert Hunter , with the last two coming out of the Tour de France in good condition.
