26.08.2008/Alejandro Valverde will lead the French Caisse d'Epargne team at the Vuelta a Espana. Valverde started as one of the favourites at this years Tour de France but although the rider from Murcia won 2 stages and led the overall of the French 3 week stage race, he did win the most important grand tour on the calender. Valverde says he wants to use the Vuelta to get in shape for the world championships and will not start to win the overall but this could also be a move to stay in the shadow of riders like Astana rider Alberto Contador and Carlos Sastre (CSC - Saxo Bank).

Alejandro Valverde stated on several occasions that he is not aiming for the overall win at the Vueltaq a Espana. But Valverde wants a stage win and who knows what the Spanish rider will do if he is in a good position at the overall.

Valverde starts with a strong team. Climbers like David Arroyo and Joaquím Rodríguez will support the two time winner of Liège - Bastogne - Liège (2006 and 2008) in the mountains and Vicente García Acosta will play an important role at the flat stages.

Valverde will be supportes by a complete Spanish team at the Vuelta a Espana. The 28 year old finished second overall at the 2006 edition of the Spanish 3 week stage race.

Caisse d'Epargne for Vuelta Espana 2008:

David Arroyo, Imanol Erviti, Vicente García Acosta, Alberto Losada, Dani Moreno, Luis Pasamontes, Joaquím Rodríguez, Alejandro Valverde and Xabier Zandio.
