The 80th edition of the Italian classic covers a tough 198 kilometres long course through the Euganei hills near Padua, with the final climb of the Roccolo, 25 kilometres from the finish, expected to decide the race.

Team Barloworld will have a group of 10 riders for the race who should all be competitive. John Lee Augustyn , Francesco Bellotti , Mauricio Soler and Felix Cardenas togheter with Christian Pfannberger can all go on the attack in the hills. Pfannberger is in great form at the moment, as his numerous placings in the recent Trittico Lombardo have proved, while Bellotti, who rode the Tour of Portugal, could also be a major contender.

Enrico Gasparotto also returns from Tour of Portugal with several good placings and could win the Giro del Veneto if it finishes in a sprint between a few select riders. Britain's Steve Cummings is also a major contender and his motivation is sky high after his win at the recent Coppa Bernocchi. The team's line-up, lead by directuer sportif Flavio Miozzo , is completed by Diego Caccia , Patrick Calcagni and Marco Corti , who showed his form at the Trofeo Melinda.
