Cycling tour with Christian Knees along the river Rhine

Last Saturday 80 cycling fans were joining a cycling tour with Christian Knees along the river Rhine, initiated by the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

The tour lead the riders over 33 kilometers from Brühl to Wesseling to Bornheim. After the tour Christian Knees admitted that it was no serious training for him but he enjoyed the tour very much: “It was a lot of fun to talk to the people and we had really interesting chats. Everybody who joined the tour was very well informed about professional cycling.”

Also for the organisers of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, who wanted to present their region in a new way, the premiere of the tour was very successful. Next year they want to do this tour again, maybe with a longer route. “It was interesting to see how the reactions on the tour were”, said Alexandra Klaus from the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. She also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere during the tour and told already that they have got a few more nice ideas they want to realise the next time.

Christian Kux of Team Milram’s Continental Team has won the overall individual classification of the German U 23 Bundesliga. Rank 28 in the German Mountain Championship in Traunstein was enough for the 21 year-old to secure the overall victory.

Throughout the whole series of the Bundesliga, Christian Kux proved the most constant U 23 rider. The man from Chemnitz, who said he has worked a lot on his own performance this year, already won the first race this April in Fürth/Cadolzburg and achieved another victory in the fifth race in Gera. In the second to last race at the Nürburgring, the young talent secured his top position in the overall classification with rank three and started into the finale in Traunstein with a clear winning margin.

Fansite Frank Vandenbroucke back online

Last week we reported that the Fansite of Frank Vandenbroucke was offline due to a conflict about a picture that was published by the webmaster. The webmaster settled with photographer Mr. Bouchez and his agency Sofam for a fine of Euro 500 instead of more than 1300 Euros. The conflict started after the website published a picture that was send by a Vandenbroucke fan and mistakenly thought the fan made the picture himself. Agency Sofam saw the picture and wanted a fine, because the copyrights of the picture belonged to their client Mr. Bouchez. Fans of Frank Vandenbroucke collected money to support the webmaster in order to be able to get the website online again. The site can be visited on: www.frankvdbroucke.be

Cyclingheroes supported the VDB website by offering pictures of Frank for free in the future.

Meanwhile Frank Vandenbroucke will start for his new team Aqua & Sapone at the Coppa Sabatini on Thursday. VDB had a court hearing in Belgium yesterday but the hearing is postponed untill December 12.

McQuaid: appeal if Ullrich won't be banned

Acccording to German sports weekly "Sportbild", the UCI will appeal for the international sports court if the Swiss cycling federation decides not to suspend Jan Ullrich. Swiss cycling President Lorenz Schäffli told reporters last week that Ullrich would get a license for 2007 if he would ask for one but now UCI president Pat McQuaid told "Sportbild" that the UCI would appeal against this decision. McQuaid also stated that Ullrich couldn't get a contract with a Pro-Tour team for the coming season as long as he is under doping investigation because of the code of conduct. However German lawyer Michael Lehner questions the same Code of conduct and said the agreement between the UCI and the Pro-Tour teams might not survive if a rider sues over the issue. Mr. Lehner is not representing Jan Ullrich, he represents Professor Franke in a case against Ullrich.
