19.02.2008/ Gerald Ciolek (Team High Road) will publish a riders diary during the Amgen Tour of California. You can read the German version on radsport-aktiv.de and the English version on our website. Today Day 1 & 2: "I'm still missing that final punch."

I was really satisfied with the prologue, even I had could taken the curves better. How strong our team was at the opening race shows that I was the last rider in our internal team rankink. The first day already showed that this is a beautiful race: weel organised, first class hotels, good level and enthousiastic spectators. Only the wetter didn't play along. We didn't notice a lot from the 'sunshine' state California. The sky is dark and grey, for the coming days they even predicted rain.

After the result of the prologue we planned to ride for Mark Cavendish, who was only four seconds behind Fabian Cancellara and had a good position to take the yellow jersey.  But the final climb made an end to Mark's ambition. He had to let go, so I took my chance. The second place is of course a good result but I noticed that I am still missing the final punch. I am here to get it.

At todays second stage the team will ride for me, the goal is the same like yesterday: stage win and yellow jersey. We'll see how it goes.
