Morkov outsprinted his breakaway companion David O’Loughlin of Pezula Racing at yesterdays
second strage. Irish rider O’Loughlin and Shaun Davel of Pro Mr Price WP came second and third respectively.
Morkov, who also climbed his way into the Powerade King of the Mountains jersey, rode in the
seven-rider breakaway bunch that took an early lead after about 14km into the race. The winner of the opening stage, Christian
Pfannenberger defended his overall lead.
Todays 174.5 kilometres long third stage starts in Paarl and features the challenging
Franschhoek and Du Toit’s Kloof Passes.
The start of the Du Toits Kloof Pass will lie in waiting
after about 120km of racing and may make or break cyclists’ overall classification.
And it is here that David George of Team MTN Energade is hoping to give
a repeat performance of his spectacular 2002 win.
