Team captain Robert Hunter, Christian Pfannberger, Christopher Froome, Hugo Sabido, Daryl Impey and Felix Cardenas excelled
during the 5 day stage race to take home the silverware. Robert Hunter showed South Africans that he is not just a sprinter
by taking home the King of the Mountains jersey, while Christopher Froome, who rode consistently well during the week, attacked
Signal Hill to place second in the overall general classification race for the Giro del Capo cup.
Austrian national champion, Christian Pfannberger, riding his first season with Team Barloworld, proved that he is a force
to be reckoned with in the cycling world by winning, not only the Points jersey but also the Pink Leaders jersey 5 days in
a row in the general classification and taking home the Giro del Capo cup!
The final Camps Bay time-trial stage (5,5 km) didn't gave Christian Pfannberger further problems: he placed third and maintained
the leading jersey, whilst Chris Froome seventh place allowed the Kenia rrider to go up in the overall second ranking.
David George of MTN Energade proved once again that he was the king of Signal Hill when he won the individual hill climb
time trial – the final stage of the MTN Giro del Capo – in a time of 12’35.36”.
Dominique Cornu of the Belgian National Team came second, some 7.25 seconds behind George.
It is the fifth time – and the third time consecutively - that George wins this stage.
Claudio Corti, Team Barloworld's team manager Claaudio Corti said: "I am ecstatic with today's results. We came to Giro
del Capo to do well and win. To win in this beautiful city, in the homeland of our sponsor is very special for the team and
we are all very happy."
Tomorrow the final show at the Cape Argus: Barloworld sprinter Rob Hunter wish to repeat 2007 success as well.
