Robbie McEwen told sporza.be "My form is coming." McEwen continued by saying that there are "not many races for me at the
moment because I am not a really a rider for the classics." The Australian sprinter said: So I had already marked Milano -
Sanremo, Waregem and de Scheldeprijs."
McEwen said he feels physically well. "The moment has come to win a race."
"I made enough kilometres and did some
sprint training sessions last week."
McEwen knows he has a lot of competition in todays Gent - Wevelgem. "Cavendish,
Chicchi, Zabel, Hushovd and Napolitano. But this is a race that is impossible to predict."
McEwen will be the captain of the Silence - lotto squad. "We will start with a team which is very different from Sunday
[Tour of Flanders, editor]. We don't look for a revenge but we do hope to have not as much bad luck. A victory or a podium
spot is a nice result."
Although the season started three months ago a victory would be McEwen's first win this season. "That
I did not win yet is because of the circumstances. I had a bad crash and after that I was ill. Of course I would have
liked to win already but its not a disaster. I did not forget how to do it."
McEwen continued by saying: "I am not
thinking to much about it. By the way, its the quality that counts: Its all about winning in the Tour and the Giro."
High
Road's Mark Cavendish likes to compare himself with McEwen. "He sprints a little bit in the way I do myself and his body
is more or less similar, that's correct. But cavendish is thirteen years younger than I am and he isn't as pretty as
I am," saida joking McEwen.
"That somebody with so much talent compares himself with me, honours me but that doesn't change the
fact that most of all I want to beat Cavendish."
Tonight Cyclingheroes will publish a race report and picture gallery of Gent - Wevelgem.
