Rabobank captain Thomas Dekker trained the final 100 kilometres
with former teammate and "Mister Amstel Gold", Michael Boogerd. 'Boogie' told Dutch daily newspaper 'De Telegraaf': "Thomas
is climing very easily at those climbs. He really made me suffer." Boogerd new that Dekker is one of the big favourites for
tomorrows Amstel Gold Race but after Fridays trainingride he is even more convinced. 'Boogie' said: "I already thougt that
Thomas was one of the favourites but after what I saw him doing now I am absolutely sure." Boogerd added: "His greatest chance
to win the race is when he arrives alone at the Cauberg. To achieve that Thomas should attack on the Keutenberg."
Sebastian Langeveld is still suffering with wounded knee and
will not start in the Amstel Gold Race coming Sunday. The 23 year old Lissenaar was one of the standouts in the Round of Vlaanderen.
He also was very strong in Paris – Roubaix, until he fell in a corner with a lot of grit. German rider Paul Marten will
replace Langeveld. "The wound in my knee is very deep,
in the first instance I thought it healed very well but last night I get awake in sweat, explained Langeveld. "It is obvious
that my body is recovering from the wounds, I am using antibiotics and that costs energy. I hoped I could start in the Amstel
Gold Race, but the team doctors told me I have to skip this race. My preseason ends one race earlier than I expected."
