Gasparotto felt incredibly good today, and discovered his cards by attacking with 15 kilometres to go, soon joined
by Belarussian Kiryenka, Pronk, and Goesinnen, but only Gasparotto and Kiryenka managed to dispute the final sprint, where
the Team Barloworld's rider grabbed his victory, clearly faster as Kiryenka.
Gasparotto escape was helped by the rain in last kilometres. Sports director Alberto Volpi said: "Enrico was outstanding
today: after a third place yesterday, today he has taken the stage win and the lead. Of course his escape was helped
by the rain falling down in the last kilometre, as he and Kiryienka managed to maintain a 10 second's lead over the rest
of the main group. By the way, fortune favours the braves!"
Gasparotto's win of course brought optimism in Claudio
Corti 's team, especially with the Tour de France in mind: after Robert Hunter 's win in the CTT Correios, another success
can do nothing but boost the athletes' morale up. And, just before the start of La Grande Boucle, Gasparotto will have a chance
to be a protagonist of the next Italian National Championship, as surely he would like to be in the exclusive club of two-time
winners.
Tomorrow the Ster Elektrotoer will continue with the fourth stage with start and finish in Nuth. The
stage has an altitude profile that surely does not fit sprinters: in fact, the riders will face several climbs, not so long
but pretty steep over the 192 kilometres long stage.
