The German Cycling Federation (BDR) announced the roster for the Olympic Games after Sundays National Championships in
Bochum. Gerolsteiner's Fabian Wegmann defended his title and will lead the German Olympic team.
The other selected riders are: Stefan Schumacher (Gerolsteiner), Jens Voigt (CSC - Saxo Bank), Bert Grabsch (High
Road) and Gerald Ciolek (High Road).
Astana's Andreas Klöden was not selected for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Klöden said: "After the announcement of the
nominations for the Olympics yesterday evening, I am very dissapointed about the fact that my name is not
on the list."
Klöden said that its also because of his results (Klöden was third at the road race of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney),
that Germany has been granted five riders to start the race. The winner of this years Tour de Romandie said he "always
performed well his year, although the circumsvances were very difficult."
Klöden continued: "After my team was out
for the Tour, this is the second big dissapointed this season. But what irritates me the most is that I only received a short
mobile message from the BDR with 'You are not among them." Klöden asked the BDR for a reason but did not receive an answer
yet.
