03.08.2008Astana Cycling Team General Manager Johan Bruyneel announced 3 days ago that nine riders have re-signed for the 2009 season.  Assan Bazayev, Chris Horner, Maxim Iglinskiy, Andreas Klöden, Steve Morabito, Dmitriy Muravyev, Daniel Navarro, Gregory Rast and Michael Schär have recommitted their services to Team Astana and will rejoin the team that also includes 2008 Giro d’Italia Champion Alberto Contador and US national road champion Levi Leipheimer. Klöden attacked Gerolsteiner manager Hans-Michael Holczer on his personal website.

Sunday evening, after his victory in the Classic Mountain Bike Granfondo of the Lombards, Gilberto Simoni signed a new contract with team manager Gianni Savio for the 2009 season. Alessandro Bertolini, Leonardo Moser and Italian young gun Thomas Bertolini also signed with Diquigiovanni - Androni. ,

Michele Scarponi will also race for the Italian team after the end a ban for his involvement in the Fuentes affair.

Team manager Gianni Savio said: "We are very pleased to have renewed with our warrior [Simoni, editor] Simoni offered great emotions in the Giro d'Italia and for sure he will do that again in the next season. Gilberto Simoni is a great professional and, with Alessandro Bertolini, will give valuable advice to Leonardo Moser and the young Thomas Bertolini, a talent in which we believe much."
