Men's Team Pursuit

Great Britain set a Team Pursuit world record of 3:55.202 in qualifying on Sunday, August 17 to advance to the gold medal round. Two-time defending world champions Great Britain are favored to win their first Olympic gold medal in Team Pursuit since the London 1908 Olympic Games.

Denmark will battle Great Britain for the gold medal after a superb second qualifying ride that set a Danish national record of 3:56.831.

New Zealand was hoping to reach the gold medal round, but will be fighting for the bronze medal against defending Olympic gold medalists Australia.

Women's Points Race

Defending Olympic champion Olga Slyusareva of Russia will lead a wide-open Points Race competition.

Reigning world champion Marianne Vos of the Netherlands will be keen to make up for a disappointing sixth-place performance in the Women's Cycling Road Race on Sunday, August 10.

Vera Carrara of Italy hopes to add an Olympic title to her Points Race successes that also include back-to-back world titles in 2005-06.

Rebecca Romero of Great Britain - hot off her gold-medal ride in the Women's Individual Pursuit - is an outsider to chase her second medal at Beijing 2008.

Women's Sprint quarterfinals

Victoria Pendleton of Great Britain is favored to reach the gold medal round in the second of three days of racing in the Sprint.

Pre-race medal favorites Guo Shuang of China, Jennie Reed of the United States and Anna Meares of Australia all made it safely through the 1/8 finals in Sunday's competition.

Men's Sprint quarterfinals

Two British, two French and two Germans are among the eight quarterfinalists.

Chris Hoy of Great Britain, already a gold medalist in the Men's Team Sprint and Keirin, is hoping to qualify for his third gold-medal race of Beijing 2008.
