Speaking about the World championchips part 2
Paolo Bettini (Quickstep, Italy): „Beating Erik Zabel is a great feeling. We are friends since years and
have done so many races together. He is the personification of professional cycing.“
Erik Zabel (Milram, Germany): „Maybe I was working too much to close the gap to the leading riders. But
I had to try all or nothing. It´s hard to see that you are leading 50 meters ahead of the finishing line but being beaten
in the end. Anyway, being second in a world championship is also great."
Michael Boogerd (Rabobank, Netherlands): “We were able to prove ourselves
as we didn’t have the best team but still three of us were able to play an important role in the final. Unfortunately
the track wasn’t suited for us to stay ahead and speaking of Bettini he was just the best man today and he made a real
effort and therefore I am happy for him as he is a wonderful champion. The best man in one day races becomes Champion of the
World on the road: that is how it’s supposed to be.”
Tomorrow we will publish a picture gallery of the 2006 world champion ships in Salzburg

UCI and Swiss cycling federation: war of words over Ullrich case
The UCI and the Swiss cycling federation are in a war of words about the Ullrich case. Swiss cycling president
Lorenz Schäfli told reporters of German newsagency DPA that his organisation is still waiting for notarised documents of the
Puerto investigation. Swiss cycling asked the UCI more than a month ago to notarise the documnets but UCI
president Pat McQuaid said that only the Spanis judge who is leading the Puerto investigation could notarize the Puerto papers.
Schäfli told Swiss daily Neue Züricher zeitung: "We need the original documents and not translations, otherwise the disciplinary
committee will throw us out," UCI lawyer Philippe Verbiest responded: "The Swiss received the original documents - just
like all the other federations."
Steven de Jongh wins Delta profronde
Dutchman Steven De Jongh (Quickstep-Innergetic) has won the Delta Profronde
on saturday. De Jongh was the fastest in a bunch sprint and beat Simone Cadamuro (Team Milram) and Graeme Brown (Rabobank).
