Franco-Belge: Van Eeckhout takes third stage

Nico Van Eeckhout (Chocolade Jaques) won the third and longest stage of the Franco-Belge. He outsprinted his breakaway companions Jaan Kirsipuu (second - Crédit Agricole) and Kevin Neirynck (third - Landbouwkrediet). Kevin Van Impe (Quickstep) is still the overall leader.

Gasparotto won GP Cimurry

Enrico Gasparotto (Liquigas) won the GP Cimurry in Italy on saturday. Gasparotto won the bunch sprint after 199,5 kilometers. Matteo Carrara (Lampre-Fondital) came in second and russian rider Alexander Khatuntsev (Omnibike Dynamo Moscow) came in third.

Basso at trofeo Città di Borgomanero ?

According to Italian based website Tutobiciweb Ivan Basso might start at the pair time trial trofeo Città di Borgomanero. His partner would be Fabian Cancellara which indicates Basso might stay with CSC if his name will be cleared (we reported yesterday).

Puerto: No evidence against Botero

Ettore Sangiovanni, President of the Columbian cycling federation, la Federación Colombiana de Ciclismo (FCC) told reporters of Columbian sports daily "Tercera" that his federation cleared Santiago Botero of the allegations against him in the Puerto doping scandal.  Sangiovanni told reporters that his federation looked into the documents that were send by the UCI and couldn't find solid evidence against Botero.

It's unkown if the UCI will appeal for the international sports court CAS against the decision. Botero was suspended by his team, Phonak on June 2.

Gilbert: "Zürich Metzgete suits me"

In an interview with Belgian daily "La Dernière Heure", FD Jeux rider Philippe Gilbert stated: "Zürich Metzgete suits me." Gilbert had a very succesful season winning Omloop Het Volk, GP de Wallonnie and stagewins in the Eneco-Tour and the Dauphiné Liberé and wants to go for a great result on Sundays Zürich Metzgete.

After Valverde announced that he wouldn't start in Zürich, Alexander vinokourov and Andrej Kashechin also announced they won't start. Serge Baquet (Quickstep) won't start because of a virus-infection. But still the race will have a strong starting field with titel defender and fresh world champion Paolo Bettini, Michael Boogerd, Frank Schleck, Samuel Sanchez, Alessandro Ballan, Danilo Di Luca, Steffen Wesemann, Cadel Evans and Philippe Gilbert are just some of the names who we could see on the podium in Zürich. For Swiss Gerolsteiner rider Sven Montgommery it will be the last race of his career. Montogommery suffered many injuries in the last couple of years and decided to retire after Zürich Metzgete.

Dutch rider Jens Mouris to DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed

Jens Mouris will leave German team Regiostrom and joins the DFL-Cyclingnews-Litespeed squad in the 2007 season.

Anders Lund Turns Pro at Team CSC

Danish rider Anders Lund is joining Team CSC next season as a professional rider. The 21-year-old Dane is considered one of the biggest talents in his generation.

"It's a dream come true for me and I'm extremely happy to have signed with Team CSC. I'm really looking forward to turning pro and starting that particular part of my career. Getting a contract with Team CSC has been my goal all along, and now when it's finally happened I'm of course very proud and relieved that it's all worked out," said Anders Lund, who took a silver medal last year at the Junior World Championships.

"We've had our eye on Anders for a long time and signing with him was only natural. He's a great talent, who has the potential to become a brilliant rider. He has impressed when he's been at our training camps, and his results as an amateur show that he's the winning type. It will be exciting to follow Anders over the next few years, and I predict him a great career as a pro rider," said Bjarne Riis.
