Cross: Mourey and Vos won fourth weltcup race in Treviso

Francis Mourey (FD Jeux) won the fourth weltcup race of the cross season. Mourey outsprinted current cross world champion Erwin Vervecken (Fidea) and Sven Nys (Rabobank). The 26 year old Mourey was the first French rider that won a worldcup race since the victory of Dominique Arnould in Sablé-sur-Saone in 1995.

Nys commented after the race: "Now i have beaten Erwin Vervecken and than Mourey comes over me on the right side." When  i passed Erwin (Vervecken, Cyclingheroes), i thought i've made it but i have to admit that Mourey was more fresh than me. I thought i was sprinting for victory when i came out of the last corner and was at the front but all over sudden i wasn't sharp enough anymore.Bravo Mourey."

Mourey lost the in Kalmhout, where Nys was the strongest and commented: "Kalmhout was more a technical race and i am not that good at technical races. Here we had some mean hills and a lot of parts which were straight and that suits me better. I didn't have any trouble to dictate the pace and in the final lap i was more fresh than the others."

The 19 year old road and cross world champion, Dutch shooring start Marianne Vos won the womens race.

Valverde won Amstel Curaçao Race

Alejandro Valverde won the fifth edition of the Amstel Curaçao Race yesterday. The race on the Carrebean island was also the last race for Rabobank pro's Erik Dekker and Marc Wauters, both riders will retire. Fränk Schleck came in second and Erik Dekker grabbed the last podium spot.

Ángel Vicioso: "The cyclists didn't have had the presumption of innocence

In an interview with Spanish website redaragon.com former Liberty Seguros rider Àngel Vicioso spoke about the Puerto affair. The case against Vicioso and several other Spanish riders was closed last week by the Spanish cycling federation. Vicioso told redaragon.com: "I did not know that everything would be solved so fast, although my lawyer assured me that it would went this way." Vicioso continued: "That the files were closed demonstrated that they had nothing against us." Vicioso said that the riders who were allegedly involved in the Puerto scandal couldn't defend themselves: "the summary (the 38 pages which led to the suspension of 58 riders, Cyclingheroes) was leaked to the press and we were in the middle without a chance to defend ourselves." Asked about his thoughts about the new anti-doping law in Spain, Vicioso said: "i didn't read it but i totally agree with the fight against doping." Redaragon.com also asked about Vicioso's thoughts that according to the Spanish federation his license was never suspended, Vicioso commented: " Yes, but they opened cases. The presumtion of innocence has not been repected to us as it happens to all other people. Because of a summary were a serie of names appeared, and which was leaked to the press we could not race." Vicioso and other Spanish riders are considering to complain for damages: "The damage that has been done to me and my family is irreparable. But somebody will have to face the economic damage. We will collectivly initiate demands at a particular level for lost races and contracts."

Vicioso wants to return to racing and said he is negotiating with several teams. He started to train agian and wants to do well at next years Tour de France.

Martin Mares back to Czech Republic

Czech rider Martin Mares will leave Naturino - Sapore Di Mare and will join the Czech PSK Whirlpool  squad. Mares also raced for PSK Whirlpool from 220 untill 2004. In 2005 he has won the overall of the Tour of Qinghai Lake, this year he was second at the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda.

Ruslan Ivanov first rider with DNA clause in his contract

Ruslan Ivanov signed a contract with Amore & Vita – McDonald’s for the 2007 season.  Ivanov is the first rider that signed a contract with a DNA clause in it. The team has the right to get a DNA sample of Ivanov if they want to have one.

At the same time the DNA issue is still a point of discussion. President of the Italian cycling federation, Renato Di Rocco told Tuttobiciweb.com that we shouldn't "exaggerate".  Silvio Martinello of the Italian federation told the Italian website: "DNA samples could open the door to numerous problems. We could accept it if  Wada demands it to  athletes of every sport, but  that seems almost impossible. And cycling cannot always be the only sport to pay: we are more controls, we want you to control us but we cannot always pay for all”.

Bert Grabsch in favour of anti-doping law

Bert Grabsch who will race for the German T-Mobile squad next year didn't want to comment about the doping allegations against Jan Ullrich in an interview with German weekly Super Sonntag, but he did say: "whether he did it or not, he really didn't deserve what happens to him at the moment. First he was hyped by the media and now they put him down. After all, we have to thank him to a considerable degree. Whether it is the wages in cycling or the significance of the Tour de France in Germany."

Grabsch knows that a German anti-doping law is not an issue anymore for the German government, nevertheless he is in favour of an anti-doping law in Germany : "The doping issue won't go away by itself, so it's all the more important that we finally get a law against it because when somebody goes to jail for it, it would certainly discourage."

Grabsch, who was injured this season started training last month again: " For almost two months i didn't do anything. Now i get for two till four hours a day on my bike again." At the end of the month Grabsch will fly to South Africa for a traing camp: "A new professional chapter is opening for me with a team that has a lot of potential. Almost half of the team is new, and there's also new management and a new Sports Director."
