Ballan attacked on Grammont followed by Hoste and then preceded the breakaway mate in the final sprint. A very strong Ballan, but the whole Lampre-Fondital team was surprisingly strong: Franzoi was in the main breakaway of the day that reached an advantage of 10’, Bennati was during the whole race at the front of the bunch and finished 19th, Baldato and Mori led the bunch in the key moment, Fornaciari and Righi covered Ballan in the central part of the race.
"A dream comes true,"  Ballan commented. "I won with an attack on Grammont just like the great champions: I immediately understood that it was the right action, then in the sprint I was a bit afraid when Hoste started, but I hung on and I obtained this fantastic victory. I want to thank my team mates, they were perfect; I thank also the sponsors that follow the team with an outstanding passion."
