26.05.2007/ Doctor Andreas Schmid, who was sacked by T-Mobile and the University of Freiburg after he admitted to have doped several Telekom riders, did research for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is unkown if he is still doing research WADA.

After the doping confessions of several former Telekom riders and team doctors Lothar Heinrich and Andreas Schmid there are still many questions to be answered. The role of the doctors extends beyond Team Telekom. Doctor Andreas Schmid did a lot of research on the subject of blood manipulation. According to the Website of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Dr. Schmid is part of a team which is doing research for WADA to detect blood manipulation. Dr. Schumacher of the German Cycling Federation is also involved in the two year project that started in 2005.
The project is about finding ways to detect blood doping or epo use by monitoring the total mass of haemoglobin in an athlete's blood over time.

In the light of recent events it raises some questions whether it was particularly helpful to have Doctor Schmid on this project who recently confessed to have had advised athletes on using PEDs. While Doctor Schmid, a founding member of the research program was in charge of the post operation puerto anti doping programm of team t-mobile it could have make sense to engage in a project like this it does not fit the picture that the program started as early as 2005 way before Operation Puerto broke loose.
