Andreas Klöden crashed after 107 kilometers as he touched the wheel of a rider in front of him who suddenly slowed down. With the assistance of his teammate Daniele Navarro , Klöden managed to join the main group again. Klöden didn't lose time, he crossed the finishline with the front group. After the race he went immediately to the hospital. The medical diagnosis is a  capillary crack in his tailbone, as well as a contusion on one of his thighs and a strong pain in one of his hips. Three years ago, Andreas Klöden had already broken his tailbone. Andreas Klöden suffers passably, but should be able to start at tomorrows stage.

The second injury concerns Alexandre Vinokourov, the winner of the 2006 Vuelta Espana crashed a little more than 30 km before the finishline.  Vinokourovs chain jumped from his bike. Vinokourov has severe wounds on both knees. The medical diagnosis is not established yet.

According to some of our sources Klöden was released from hospital after being examined but Vinokourov has to stay in the hospital over night.
