Paris-Corrèze: Edvald Boasson Hagen takes final stage and overall win
A hattrick of wins for Edvald Boasson Hagen: The 20-year-old Norwegian, who will be joining T-Mobile in 2008, landed another
win in the final stage of Paris-Corrèze. The wins also sealed overall victory for Boasson Hagen in the seventh edition of
the French event (UCI Cat. 2.1).
Norway's time trial champion finished the hilly 160-km course around Vigeois à Chaumeil in the Corrèze region, leading
a five-man bunch sprint. The breakaway group took the lead after 5 km and defended their five-minute advantage all the way
to finishing line.
After the four final laps Boasson Hagen outsprinted the four other escapees. This, despite saying on Wednesday that he
"did not know whether he could retain the leader's jersey". Even his Sporting Director at Maxbo-Bianchi, Gino van
den Oudenhove, had raised doubts that he and the team could successfully defend the overall lead.
Baliani won GP di Camaiore
Fortunato Baliani of Team Panaria-Navigare has won the 58th GP di Camaiore on Thursday. After 193 kilometers, the Italian
was first in the sprint of an escape group, followed by his fellow-countryman Gabriele Bosisio (Tenax). A narrow win: a foto
of the finish had to decide. Third was Konstantin Siutsou of Team Barloworld.
Taylor Phinney junior ITT world champion
On Wednesday, Taylor Phinney won the time trial at the UCI Junior World Championships in Aquascalientes, Mexico.
