CSC's  stage win was crowned with Jens Voigt taking the yellow jersey with the bonus second he had over his team mates thanks to his third place in the sprint on Friday's opening stage of the Tour of Germany.

"The team did really well, because it isn't just any old squad Discovery Channel has come with. The team functioned perfectly and we managed to time it really well, so that we had the resources to really turn it on at the end. So it's no exaggeration to say we are all completely satisfied,” said CSC sports director Kim Andersen after the stage.

Rabobank sports director Frans Maassen was satisfied with the performance of his team: "This was a homogenous team that managed to keep the time gap between them and the favorites very limited. I have not been able to discover any weaknesses. We finished with seven cyclists because Sébastian Langeveld did not bother about the final 200 meters after a tough effort. But he was also super, though. The same thing applied to Theo Eltink, Mauricio Ardila, and Robert Gesink, in spite of the fact that it was a difficult course for them because of the many changes in pace. They held out great."

Opening stage
Friday's opening stage was decided after a bunch sprint which was won by Gerolsteiner's Robert Förster.
