Frank Vandenbroucke (Acqua & Sapone) told Belgian Tv programm "Zomer op 1" he wants to keep racing until
he is 40 years old. Vandenbroucke (VDB) is racing at several crits in Belgium at the moment. VDB tried to commit suicide
in June but it looks like he is feeling better now.
VDB said: "But the bike that's my life." VDB is still very popular in Belgium, on a crit on Monday the crowds were
cheering his name. Vandenbroucke added: "I need, especially on my age, competition to get back in shape."
VDB was looking good. The Belgian rider said with a smile: "I want to keep racing until I am 40, I had a professional
career of 22 years by then."
Vandenbroucke said he had overcome the split with his wife, Sarah Pinacci. VDB wants to show something
at the final part of this season. "I want to achieve a good result in 2007, maybe in the Giro Lombardia. My contract ends
at the end of this season. We will see with which team I will ride next season."
Vandenbroucke also spoke with Belgian daily newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. VDB said: "Ofcourse everything is not perfect
on the psychological level but that will come." VDB continued by saying: "I recovered well and I mean it. During the fall
classics I want to show myself again. Next season? I have a good relation with my current manager Masciarelli [Acqua &
Sapone] so I don't see a problem to possibly extend my contract with my current team." Vandenbroucke also said that his knee
problems are over and he can train without pain again.
Vandenbroucke raced at the derny criterium in Wilrijk Monday night, he finished 22th. The race was won by Peter Van Petegem.
Tonight Vandenbrouckke will start at a crit in Heusden.
