Todays first stage was troubled by very bad weather and changing weather. Before the start of the race the
streets were already wet after massiv rainfall on midday. As the streets looked a bit dry Unibet.com set a time which was
the fastest for quite some time.
The Lampre train set a remarkable time of 3' 36".02, it turned out to be enough to take the stage. Soon after
Lampre finished it started to rain again and any hope to race faster than 3' 35" was wishful thinking. As Lampre's Roberto
Longo was the first rider that crossed the line, he will wear the yellow jersey tomorrow.
The jury, the team managers and the race organizers decided to neutralize all times due to the uneven weather
conditions so all riders will start tomorrows second stage from Plonsk to Olsztyn with identical time in the general classification.
"It was all the sports directors and the organizers, who before the stage agreed that the route was a bit
too dangerous in the rain for the results to count. So it ended up being just a show for the sake of the onlookers and also
to determine, who was going to wear the leader's jersey in the second stage," explained Team CSC's sports director Alain Gallopin
and continued:
"It was kinda wet at the beginning, but then halfway through it dried up so I started to think we might
win, because we were one of the last teams to start, but towards the end it started to pour so we had to be very careful and
not take any unnecessary chances. I think we finished last actually."
