Massak: "I will license him"

Massak or Massat?

Yesterday we reported that Rudolf Massak, president of the Austrian cycling federation would give Jan Ullrich a license should he apply for one. The first report was in German tabloid "Bild" who mistakenly wrote MassaT instead of MassaK. It was interesting to see how the international media copied the story of "Bild". Almost all German media and even CNN took over the mistake.: they all published MassaT.

Meanwhile Jan Ullrich published a statement on his website congratulating Andreas Klöden and his wife Bettina with their wedding. Jan Ullrich was invited to the wedding, which took place in Berlin, but decided not to attend since he didn't want to get all the attention of the German media on this day where Bettina and Andreas Klöden should be the stars.

Gabriel to Landbouwkrediet

36 year old French rider Frederic Gabriel moves from Unibet.com to Landbouwkrediet-Colnago. Gabriel started as a pro in 1995, his biggest succes was his victory in the 2003 Tour de La Somme, in the 2006 season his best result was a fourth place in stage 5 of the peacerace wher he was also 14th in the overall.

Robert McLachlan wins longest UCI race

Robert McLachlan (Drapac-Porsche) has won the Melbourne to Warnambool Classic, a race over 300,3 kilometers in Australia. It's the longest race on the UCI calender. McLachlan needed less than 8 hours for his victory, 1' 30" behind him Australian rider david Pell came in second and Kjell Carlström (Liquigas) came in third. It was the 11th victory for Robert McLachlan after wins in the Tour of Taiwan, Chong Ming Island and the Tour of Korea.

Ricco wins Japan cup

Riccardo Ricco (Saunier-Duval) has won the Japan Cup. Ricco won the sprint of a breakaway group. Ruggero Marzoli (Lampre-Fondital) came in second, Vladimir Gusev (Discovery Channel) came in third.

Danny Stam and Peter Schep won Sixdays of Amsterdam

Danny Stam and Peter Schep have won the Sixdays of Amsterdam last night. It was the first Sixdays victory for the Dutch duo in the second Sixdays they formed a team. Normally Stam races together with Robert Slippens but Slippens crashed in August and is recovering from his injuries.

Stam and Schep attacked the race leaders Bruno Risi and Franco Marvulli in the last night and took over their leading position.

Claudio Corti wants Ivan Basso but Dutch magazine claims Basso already signed with Discovery

The Barloworld team wants to sign Ivan Basso. Barloworld's team manager Claudio Corti confirmed the news in an interview with Italian daily sports "Tuttosports". Corti told "Tuttosport" that Barloworld will wait for Ivan Basso untill Basso made a decision about wether he will sign with Barloworld or Discovery Channel. The US team is interested in Basso but didn't make a concrete offer yet and it's unclear if the US based team will offer Basso a contract in the near future. Ivan Basso told Italian daily sport "Gazzetta Dello Sport" earlier this week that a non pro-tour team would also be an option for the winner of this years Giro d' Italia. Insiders expect that Baroworld would become a wildcard for next years Giro d' Italia if Basso joins the team.

UPDATE

Dutch cycling magazin "Wielermagazine" reported today that Ivan Basso has signed a contract with Discovery Channel.
