de Suisse:Tour
de Suisse:McEwen won stage 5
The second bunch sprint of this years edition of the Tour of Switzerland was won by Robbie McEwen (Predictor-Lotto)
perfectly piloted by the Predictor-Lotto team, with Fred Rodriguez as last "puller". On the fifth stage McEwen outsprinted
Daniele Bennati (second, Lampre-Fondital) and Milram's Erik Zabel, who won the first bunch sprint (stage 2).
"I was at Bennati's wheel, but I was not strong enough to pass him," said Zabel. "We had wind from behind,
so it was difficult to pass both," the winner of the second stage continued.
The breakaway of the day was formed by Laurens Ten Dam (Unibet.com) and Rubens Bertogliati (Saunier Duval-Prodir)
- the duo attacked before the ascent of the category three ascent Hotel des Alpes [58.5 km] and going on to build up a lead
of nearly ten minutes on the peloton. Ten Dam dropped his Italian companion on the steep slopes of the first category Lukmanierpass,
with 78 km to go, and pushed on alone.
Defending the yellow jersey did not present any problems for Fränk Schleck (CSC) during the 194-kilometer
fifth stage of Tour de Suisse. As expected the stage, with a route from Vaduz to Giubiasco, ended in a bunch sprint with all
the favorites crossing the finish line in the peloton.
"It was a perfect day for us. We didn't have to work very hard thanks to the sprinter teams seeing this as
their last chance to get a victory. This suited us fine after our hard work yesterday and we'll probably have a tough day
tomorrow as well," said Team CSC's sports director Kim Andersen after the stage.
Thursday's sixth stage from Giubiasco to Crans Montana also sees a big peak in the middle of the stage, but
with the Hors Categorie Nufenenpass ( 2.479m) coming 108.4 kilometres from the finish, a sizeable regrouping is expected before
the final ramp up towards the line.
However, the concluding category two climb to Route du Golf could see some gaps
open out if the big guns go full gas on the 10km haul to the top.

Lampre-Fondital for Eindhoven Team Time Trial
On Sunday June the 24th, Lampre-Fondital will take part in Eindhoven team time trial. In the blue-fucsia
team, directed by Fabrizio Bontempi, will pedal Fabio Baldato, Matteo Bono, Paolo Bossoni, Claudio Possoni, Enrico Franzoi,
Massimiliano Mori, Morris Possoni and Tadej Valjavec. In the staff will work mechanics Bortoluzzo and Tosello and masseurs
Inselvini and Corna. Lampre-Fondital Sports Director Bontempi's comment: "It's a difficult race for us, because our best
riders are in Tour de Suisse or are training in view of Tour de France. However, we try to do our best in order to honour
blue-fucsia colours. For Valjavec it will be a good time trial test in view of Tour de France".
Weylandt won first stage Ster Elektrotoer
Wouter Weylandt (Quickstep) won the first stage of the Ster Elektrotoer. The Belgian rider outsprinted Robert
Förster (Gerolsteiner) in a photo fiinsh bunch sprint after 166 Km between Schijndel and Nuth (Schimmert)..
Weylandt said: "The team did a great job for me today. The first pat was flat, the second part was hilly.
The final part was difficult to control. I did a good sprint. The two T-Mobile riders, Ciolek and Cavendish were very strong.
I passed them in the final meters. And after that Förster. I thought I did win but it took a long time before the confirmation
came. Very satisfying.. winning from one of the world's best sprinters."
Robert Förster (Gerolsteiner) came in second and local rider Stefan van Dijk (Wiesenhof-Felt) came in third.
Tuesday’s prologue winner Mikhail Ignatiev (Tinkoff) defends his overall lead in the five-day stage race.
Kasper Klostergaard (CSC) had a rough start to Ster Elektrotoer, when he suffered a serious crash in the
166-kilometer first stage from Schijncel to Nuth.
"He lost quite a bit of skin, so he won't be getting a good night's
sleep any time soon. Luckily it was only superficial wounds so he managed to complete the stage. Now we'll have to wait and
see how he feels tomorrow to find out if he's able to carry on," said CSC Sports Director Scott Sunderland after the stage
The UCI cat 2.1event continues Thursday with a 194 Km trek over hilly territory from Aachen (Germany) to
Valkenburg, where the stage culminates on the Cauberg – of Amstel Gold Race fame.
"The stage profile is a bit
similar to the Amstel Gold Race, with many short climbs that will make it very hard to set up a sprint", said T-Mobile Sports
Director Jan Schaffrath who hopes the team can get a rider away “in the right breakaway”.

The UCI and the men in black
UCI anti-doping director Anne Gripper told Belgian daily newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws that the UCI is carrying
out doping tests against 6 - 7 riders who belong to a group riders who can perform well at the Tour de France. Gripper
said: "We are testing 6 - 7 riders who are considered as high risk cases and because they are able to perform well at the
Tour de France."
Gripper continued by saying: "Some of them already underwent three or four unexpected doping tests." According
to the UCI anti-doping programm there has to be one unexpected anti-doping test every season.
Will Smith has competition from Aigle, Gripper continued by saying: "We received information that they are
training at strange places." According to Gripper three of the riders are called "Men in black." These three riders
are not wearing there team jerseys while training. That should help them to escape from the anti-doping doctors of the UCI.
The UCI is testing the riders since a couple of weeks now and the tests have delivered some "un-normal"
results. Gripper continued by saying: "We are handling these results and not all of them are negative." "But it will take
time because we have to respect the procedure, the analysis of the B sample before we can make an anouncement." Gripper said
that possibly some of the results will be known before the start of this years Tour de France.
