Swiss cycling: It's unkown if Kessler's testosterone was artificial
As reported Matthias Kessler was suspended by his Astana team on Wednesday after the team had been informed by the UCI that
Kessler had been tested positive for testosteron on April 24, 2007.
However yesterday the president of the Swiss Cycling Federation, Laurenz Schläfli told German newsagency
DPA that he did not know if there was found artificial testosterone in Kessler's A sample. Schäfli said: "The ratio was to
high." Schläfli could not say how high the ratio exactly was. Schäfli said the UCI did not inform him about that.
According to German daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung the ratio of Kessler's probe is 89,25. However
German tv station ARD reported that the ratio is 84,5:1. The normal ratio is 4. Kessler went to his attorney Michael lehner
on Thursday, saying: "I didn't do anything." Given the absurd record ratio "we do doubt the test procedure," Lehner said.
The test procedure of the the B probe will be closely watched from an independent observer. If the record ratio
would be confirmed, the cause could be a Chinese labeled nutricional supplement prescribed by his acupuncture therapist. Kessler
has admitted to taking these prescribed nutricional supplements. Yet he wasn't aware of the exact composition of the supplemts.
Should that be the case "ignorance might have led to a 'positive' testing," Lehner said.
Matthias Kessler lives in switzerland and therefore the 28 year old German rider has a Swiss license.

UCI won't hand out CONI the test results of Di Luca, Simoni, Riccò and Mazzoleni
Italian anti-doping authorities (CONI) has planned a series of hearings next week. On Monday CONI will hear Italian sprinter Alessandro Petacchi about his overuse of Salbutamol and on Wednesday July 4 CONI will hear Eddy Mazzoleni and Ruggero Marzoli. Finally on Thursday July 5 the
Italian anti-doping authorities will hear Danilo Di Luca and Domenico Quagliarello. The last 4 riders will be heard in the
so called "Oil for drugs" case.
This years winner of the Giro d'Italia, Danilo Di Luca was already banned from the 2004 Tour de France because
of his alleged involvement in the "oil for drugs" case. The police of Florence handed over a dossier of 572 pages to the state
prosecuter of Rom, Paolo Ferraro about the case. The relation
between Di Luca and Italian doctor Carlo Santuccione could bring the Italian rider into trouble. According to several
media Santuccione is linked with Spanish doctor Fuentes. Florence police tapped phone calls and filmed Santuccione preparing
a syringe with epo for Di Luca and another rider in the waiting room. It's not known where this information is coming from.
In another developement the UCI surpised CONI because the International Cycling Federation will not hand out
information about the unnormal hormone measures of Danilo di Luca, Eddy Mazzoleni, Riccardo Riccò and Gilberto Simoni
to CONI. The president of CONI, Gianni Petrucci demanded the information to speed up the investigation of the probes
of the four riders which were taken after the Zoncolan stage at this years Giro d'Italia. The UCI said they can't hand over
the information without the approval of the riders because of privacy reasons.
According to Rai Sport Eddy Mazzoleni will not start at this years Tour de France. Earlier today CONI investigator
Ettore Torri anounced in Italian daily sports Gazzetta dello Sport that he would give Mazzoleni a provisional
ban if the accusations against the number 3 of this years Giro d'Italia would not be resolved.
