Basso was saved by his family
Ivan Basso and his wife Micaela enjoy the last days of their holiday in Italy. Next week Basso will fly
to the US to start his first training camp with his new team, Discovery Channel.
Micaela told Italiandaily sports Gazzetta dello Sport: "A new beginning." In the interview Micaela
looks back at the difficult times after her husband was banned from the Tour. Micaela Basso continued by saying: "Our family
went through the muddle in unity. I talked a lot with him, Santiago [Basso's son, Cyclingheroes] distracted him and he played
a lot with Domitilla [Basso's daughter, Cyclingheroes]. The love of our family saved him."
T-Mobile on Lanzarote
Six weeks after their first get-together in Lugano (Switzerland),
the T-Mobile squad is ramping up its preparations for the coming season. On Sunday, 15 T-Mobile riders assembled on Lanzarote
to begin a short training camp, which will end on December 2.
The magenta team will stay at the west
coast of the Canary Island. For the European riders of the team, it’s a chance to do some warm weather training, as
well as getting to know the new riders in a relaxed informal setting. "Our first
training ride is on Monday. We are taking a relaxed approach. Those who want to spend time on other non-sporting leisure pursuits
will have the chance to do so," says Linus Gerdemann of the week’s program. The
15 riders who take part in the training camp are: Erik Baumann, Thomas Ziegler, Bernhard Eisel, Stefan Schreck,
Marco Pinotti, Kim Kirchen, Linus Gerdemann, Lorenzo Bernucci, Frantisek Rabon, Giuseppe Guerini, Marcus Burghardt, Jakob
Piil, Roger Hammond, Andre Greipel and Gerald Ciolek. The sporting directors and support staff are also on the island.
Rolf Aldag's team of sporting directors have laid on an extensive program of leisure pursuits
for the riders to follow over the coming days. The training conditions are perfect: "Rolf Aldag has already
been here a week and raves about the mild 25 degrees. That's fantastic of course, but we will also have to deal with the hard
wind that constantly blows across the island," says Gerdemann, who knows that he has a busy week ahead of him.
Thomas Dekker moves to Monaco
The 22 years old Dutch talent Thomas Dekker (Rabobank) moves
to Monaco. Dekker lives in Tuscany, Italy at the moment and also owns an apartment in Lanaken, Belgium. Dekker admitted to
Belgian daily sports sportwereld.be that he followed the advice of Tom Boonen, who also lives in Monaco. Dekker told sportwereld.be:
"It is not only interesting because of the taxes. In no time I ride in the mountains and that is my working place."
Dekker, who won this years edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico will
keep working with his trainer Luigi Checchini and will do some training camps in Tuscany.
On his personal website Thomas Dekker reacted on the fatal crash
of Isaac Galvez: "This is realy aweful. I am devastated by it. That you have to gon today, that you have to go training again
while somebody else died. I know Isaac as a classy rider, I saw him win at Mallorca. Cycling is a dangerous sport but you
don't think about losing your life., this kind of situations makes you put things into perspective."

Boogerd Dutch rider of the year
Dutch national champion Michael Boogerd has won the Dutch rider of the year award, the so-called Gerrit
Schulte trophy. The readers of Dutch cycling magazine 'Wieler Magazine' and the club 48 (retired professional riders) voted
for Boogerd to be the succesor of Pieter Weening. Boogerd won the award for the fifth time during his career. Other nominated
riders were track world champion Theo Bos and the shooting start of the Dutch cycling scene Skil-Shimano rider Maarten Tjallingi.
Boogerd won the award for his results in the spring classics, a third place in the Amstel Gold Race and a fifth place in Liège-Bastogne-Liège,
his national title in Maastricht, the supurb work he did for teammate Dennis Menchov in the Pyrenees mountain stage that was
won by Menchov in this years Tour de France, his results in this years Zürich Metzgete (fifth) and his work as a domestique
for overall Tirreno-Adriatico winner Thomas Dekker. Marriane Vos won the award for the best female Dutch rider of the year.
Galvez: funeral today
Isaac Galvez will be buried in his hometown Vilenova I Geltru (Barcelona) today. Meanwhile a spokesman of the Gent police, Steven De Smet told sporza.be: "No rider is to blame for the accident
of Galvez." De Smet continued by saying: "This is sport. Unfortunally accidents sometimes happen." De Smet concluded: "This
was a case of Murphy's law, a fatal mix of coincidences." The organizers of the Gent Sixdays will support the Galvez family
and founded a relief fund. The organizers donated the revenue of all tickets that were sold for the final day of the Sixdays
(the race was sold out). The riders who participated at the gent Sixdays donated their entire prize money of the Sixdays.
Chocolade Jaques signed two addional track riders
The Belgian Chocolade Jaques team signed Kenny De Ketele and Steve
Schets. With De Ketele and Schets the team has now 5 track riders, the team already has a contract with Matthew Gilmore,
Iljo Keisse and Dimitri De Fauw. Schets and De Ketele signed a contract from May 1, 2007 and come over from the Bodysol -
Win For Life - Jong Vlaanderen team.
Olano faster than Armstrong
Former road race world champion Abraham Olano run the San Sebastian marathon in 2 hours and 39 minutes.
Olano, who retired in 2002 and is now 36 years old clocked 20 minutes faster than Lance Armstrong at the New York marathon
earlier this month. Armstrong announced last week that he will run the New York marathon again in 2007.
