The most important sentence in the statement is that Ullrich claims that the allegations against his person are based on
a falsified report of the Spanish police. It's not the first time that it is claimed that the report of the Spanish police
has been falsified, earlier Manolo Saiz, manager of the former Liberty Seguros team also claimed that the Puerto report has
been falsified.
In the statement on Ullrich's website, Ullrich stated: "For the last few months, senior figures at Swiss Cycling and Swiss
Olympic have been conducting a media campaign against me, making contradictory statements to the press." Ullrich continued
by saying: "The relationship of trust has been broken. This withdrawal from the federation does not mean that I am ending
my career. I am in contact with other cycling federations regarding a licence for 2007," the Tour de France winner of
1997 concluded.
Cyclingheroes reported earlier about confusing statements made by Swiss Cycling president Lorenz Schäfli and the Swiss
Cycling website (read also: Cyclingheroes news stories about Puerto at the bottom of this page).
Ullrich also threatened with a claim for compensation as the handling of the Puerto affair by the Swiss Cycling
federation caused significant disadvantages for the former Olympic champion.
Ullrich's manager Wolfgang Strohband told German newsagency DPA that he is negotiating with several pro-tour teams and
that his client will soon work on his form in a training camp. Strohband was also quoted by German
sports news agency SID saying that Ullrich would ofcourse leave Switzerland if he becomes a professional license from another
Cycling federation.
Jan Ullrich has always denied taking any prohibited substances.
