According to Austrian website Vorarlberg online, team Volksbank Vorarlberg team managager Thomas Kofler told the website
that an intermediary of Jan Ullrich made an inquiry fora possible contract of the 1997 Tour de France winner with the Austrian
team. Kofler stated also that: "without speaking about the financial demands, there was an internal discussion
about the vision." Kofler continued by saying: "Before we can actually start with concrete negotiations Jan must be cleared
by the world association (the UCI, Cyclingheroes)." Asked if a pro continental team like Volksbank could finance a deal with
Ullrich, Kofler answered: " we have a promise for an engagement of a private sponsor".
Last week president of the Austrian cycling federation, Rudolf Massak stated that Ullrich would become a professional
license in Austria (Cyclingheroes reported) and earlier this week it was speculated by German magazine "Kicker" that Ullrich's
new sport directors would be Olaf Ludwig, Mario Kummer and Georg Totschnig. Ludwig is holder of Walter Goodefroots Pro-Tour
license and if the specultation of "Kicker" is true it's possible that Ullrich tries to re-organize a smaller team into a
Pro-Tour team.
