Jan Ullrich is not suspended at the moment. After we reported earlier this week that UCI spokesman Enrico Carpani told German daily newspaper Kölner Express that Ullrich
can race again, UCI president Pat McQuaid confirmed this yesterday.
Australian website cyclingnews.com quoted McQuaid, saying that: "Under the situation at the moment, he can ride just
as Basso can." Mcquaid continued by saying: "However I do note that there are statements that his procedure might start in
January and, also, he doesn't at this moment have a team."
Spanish media reported that Judge Antonio Serrano, who is handling the Puerto affaire for the Court of Madrid, ruled
that cycling federations can continue with disciplinary proceedings against riders who are allegedly involved with the Fuentes
scandal. However they are not allowed to use court documents that were obtained during house searches or protocols of
wiretapping measures. UCI president Pat McQuaid is still waiting for official confirmation of this and told cyclingnews.com:
"I haven't heard anything official from Spain so as such we wait what we can eventually do,"McQuaid said. "It would be good
to get to use the material we have. But it would be a lot more helpful if we can get additional material from the investigation
so we can more clearly understand what exactly took place, and therefore be in a better position to sanction those riders
who deserve it."
Last week judge Antonio Serrano announced that all 58 riders who are allegedly involved in the Fuentes affaire will have
to testify as a witness. But Ullrich will probebly not have to testify. Jan Ullrich's press officer, Michael Lang told Cyclingheroes:
"In Spain there is nothing against Jan. The judge confirmed this to us." About a possible testimony as
a witness in the Fuentes case, Lang said: "The Madrid court gave us signals that Jan won't have to testify in the Fuentes
case."
Meanwhile the petition of Jan Ullrich fans has a growing number of people who support the petition with their signature.
The webmaster of the website http://www.freie-fahrt-fuer-ulle.de , Thomas Haak told German newspaper Berliner Kurier: After the first doping shock I waited for the evidence. It wasn't there.
There is no reason why Jan is not allowed to ride."
More than 3500 signatures support the 3 theses of the green light for Ulle 1. The documents of the Spanish investigators
are questionalble 2. There is not enough evidence for prosecution. 3. The handling of the affair is unfair.
Haak
will handover the petition personally to the UCI and Swiss Cycling.
